There is a dire need for small industrial zones in Tharparkar and Umer Kot
FAISALABAD: I was on a journey with my family last week to visit my hometown of Kunri in district Umer Kot, Sindh. We reached Rohri from Faisalabad by train and stayed for one day in Sukkur to meet one of our relatives. Damaged roads and streets along with encroachments and garbage welcomed us in the city of opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah.
We travelled the next day by car from Sukkur to Mirpurkhas and saw a very deplorable situation in interior Sindh. There were huge differences of development throughout the province compared with Punjab. The majority of people in Sindh still face the problems of basic needs such as food, shelter, health, education and clean water. The poor condition of agricultural land and cultivation can also be seen, particularly where small farmers are being hunted by big landlords who, with the help of political influence, misuse the irrigation department.
Concerning industrial growth, only a few sugar mills operate in the interior of Sindh. There is a dire need for small industrial zones in Tharparkar and Umer Kot. The network of roads in Tharparkar district is quite impressive, for which the credit goes to former chief minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim who struggled for development during General (retd) Pervez Musharraf regime.
I request PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and Sindh CM Syed Qaim Ali Shah to pay attention to the development of Sindh.
