Bringing to attention

Letter April 14, 2016
The idea that Vladimir Putin is paying for political assassinations from offshore funds is baseless and defamatory

AMBASSADOR OF RUSSIA: Regarding the caricature of the Russian President Vladimir Putin published on April 8, 2016 in the Pakistani daily edition of the International New York Times, I would like to bring to attention that the picture printed (its basic idea is that Vladimir Putin is paying for political assassinations from offshore funds) is absolutely baseless and defamatory, showing unfortunately traditional anti-Russian leadership in the eyes of Pakistani readers as well.

Such a caricature of the president and the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation can be considered an offence to the people of Russia as a whole. The way the caricature is shown is not in keeping with generally adopted ethics.

This is not the first time that such biased and misleading images about Russia and the Russian leadership have been printed in your editions. Considering the recent positive developments in Russia-Pakistan relations, such editorial policy is regrettable.
