Panama Leaks and the N-League

Letter April 10, 2016
If the prime minister has done nothing wrong, he should resign

RAWALPINDI: Committing a mistake and accepting it is better than defending it. It becomes more necessary when you represent your country at the international level being the prime minister of the state. The Sharif name is included in the list of 140 corrupt personalities in the Panama Leaks. The response from the PML-N is quite pathetic. First, their spokespersons didn’t take it seriously and later on, the PM addressed the nation and tried to take the people into confidence by a five-minute long speech.

If the prime minister has done nothing wrong, he should resign for the time being and allow an impartial forensic investigation to take place as demanded by the opposition. Instead, he has ordered the setting up of a judicial commission. People have come to know the results of such commissions very well. The PML-N must learn a lesson from Iceland’s prime minister who resigned upon mere allegations without investigations. This is the difference between the democracy of Pakistan and that of other countries.
