Taseer’s murderer didn’t shout ‘Vande Matram’ or ‘God bless America’ before he pumped dozens of bullets into his body.
KARACHI: This is with reference to Amina Jilani’s article of January 22 titled “Cowering in the face of extremism”. We have suffered thousands of death in the war with religious extremists terrorists, but our media has always called the killers as ‘shiddat pasands’. These people are not ‘shiddat pasands’ but fanatics who murder in the name of our religion.
Salmaan Taseer’s murderer didn’t shout ‘Vande Matram’ or ‘God bless America’ before he pumped dozens of bullets into his body. Has our keeping ourselves in denial helped to save us from religious terrorists? Why doesn’t our media confront this reality? By blaming everyone else in the world for these attacks, do we save ourselves from future attacks? We should get our heads out of the sand and realise that these fanatics murder in the name of religion and that unless we confront them, we will be next.
