Water shortage

Letter April 05, 2016
India is violating the Indus Waters Treaty by building more dams on our rivers

ISLAMABAD: Water is a basic necessity of life. It is also an important factor for the development of the nation’s economy. A good portion of our economic activities are based on the agriculture sector, which plays the basic role in the economic development of Pakistan. We all know that Pakistan is going through a severe water shortage and the main reason for it is climate change, among others. India is violating the Indus Waters Treaty by building more dams on our rivers. The other reason for the shortage is the poor management of water resources.

Good governance and proper management are necessary to manage the water shortage. Building more reservoirs and dams is the need of the hour. Furthermore, people should be educated about water conservation in their own homes.
