To stand on the pitch and bear the pressure and then play, is difficult
KARACHI: Hypocrisy is something we see a lot nowadays. Let’s prove this using a current scenario. People are mocking our men’s cricket team, telling them to go home and cook because our women’s cricket team performed better than them. Last time, the same people gave statements like, “cricket is not for girls, girls are supposed to cook food and clean the house”. What happened to their views this time? Why is it that this time, they are telling the boys to go home, sit back and watch our girls play cricket? It was certainly not that they had a change of sexist mindsets. I know there are things the men’s cricket team needs to work hard on, but we just cannot accuse them of losing intentionally, because making comments while sitting in front of the television is easy. To stand on the pitch and bear the pressure and then play, is difficult.
I am not saying that our cricket team is right and the people passing comments are wrong. I just want to say that when we are not aware of the facts, we should stay quiet instead of blaming people for the deeds which they have not committed. Getting hyper is not the solution. Breaking television sets and burning pictures of our players will get us nowhere. Why can’t we watch cricket for entertainment and not make it a matter of life and death?
