ISLAMABAD: Corruption is more than just a crime. If the anti-corruption drive is not under political influence, as the National Accountability Bureau has insisted before the Lahore High Court, scams still strain the strategic nerves of the country. The demoralising effect that acts of mega corruption leave on society, the integrity of the state, and its ability to establish the rule of law, stand grossly challenged. That the levels of both corruption and militancy have seen a simultaneous surge, the possible linkages need to be probed into, for the best interest of the nation.
