ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to your report of January 20 titled “Belt-tightening: KESC sacks 4,000 staffers”.
I would say that the decision taken by KESC is a bold one and needs to be supported. At the same time, the government needs to start large infrastructure projects to create jobs. Large metropolitan cities require efficient public transport, a second rail link from Karachi to Peshawar needs to be established and manufacturing of locomotives should be encouraged and supported. As for the media, instead of inviting ministers and politicians, they should give airtime to business and industry leaders by inviting them to lead discussions on how to move the country forward.
