The information minister was surrounded by protesters at Karachi airport lounge who hurled verbal abuse at him
PESHAWAR: On February 29, Mumtaz Qadari was hanged as per a Supreme Court decision. Mumtaz Qadri killed Governor Salman Taseer while accusing him of blasphemy. A day after Qadri’s execution, people started protesting against the government. The worst chunk of the protest was when certain protesters, led by followers of a certain school of thought, surrounded Information Minister Pervez Rashid in a Karachi airport lounge and started ridiculing him while capturing his videos. The climax of the scene was when the mob hurled a shoe at the minister. Here, two crimes were committed: one against the teachings of the major faith and another against the state. First, just about every religion, specifically Islam, teaches respect for elders. Second, the mob committed a crime against the state because he is a representative of the state. Hopefully such embarrassing incidents will not occur again.
