MQM faces another setback

Letter March 08, 2016
Mustafa Kamal and Anees Qaimkhani should serve as a lesson for MQM supporters and followers

ISLAMABAD: A state of unrest has arisen among MQM leaders and supporters as former mayor of Karachi Mustafa Kamal, along with another party leader, Anees Qaimkhani, came to the spotlight. Mustafa Kamal, who had left the political scene for quite a while, criticised MQM chief Altaf Hussain, which has proved to be a huge setback for the party.

Both men announced a plan to launch a political party comprising only two members, which is difficult to convince observers.

The PML-N, after coming into power, began an operation against criminal elements. The stance of the government against the MQM was further hardened by the confession of convicted target killer Saulat Mirza and from then onwards, the downfall of the MQM empire began. The move by the government proved to be prudent as evidence continued to be clustered against the party led by Altaf Hussain by accusations from members of the party itself. Now Mustafa Kamal has claimed to have spilled the beans. All this hindered the economic development of Karachi.

Mustafa Kamal claimed the involvement of the MQM in some trouble-making activities and its 20-year-old link with RAW. Allegedly, being funded by RAW, the party caused troubles. The statements of an emotional Mustafa Kamal agitated Altaf Bhai’s supporters and people came out on the streets full of rage. Like in the past, the MQM rejected Mustafa Kamal’s claims but the truth can never be concealed forever.

Anti-MQM parties were delighted by the news broadcast on March 3. The MQM allegedly played a significant role in the unrest in the big city. The previous ruling party, after knowing all the facts, maintained close friendly ties with the trouble-making organisation. The current government needs to be praised as the city of lights has regained its lost glory.

The claims made by Mustafa Kamal raised several eyebrows; other parties came on air and endorsed the allegations levelled by the former mayor. The PTI, for example, which has always been an adversary of the MQM, gave further shocks to the party with their stout arguments.

Mustafa Kamal and Anees Qaimkhani should serve as a lesson for MQM supporters and followers and stop following Altaf. The future of the MQM seems to be shaky. The party will have to face the consequences of its deeds or misdeeds.
