What do the religious parties have to fear about implementing Women Protection Law?
RAWALPINDI: Maulana Fazlur Rehman has ridiculed the Punjab Assembly for passing the Women’s Protection Bill, which provides legal recourse to female victims of domestic violence. Surprisingly, other religio-political parties have also joined the JUI-F in condemning the Bill calling it “un-Islamic” and “against sharia”.
May I ask them: by calling this law “unIslamic”, do they mean that beating up, thrashing, torturing and harassing womenfolk is permissible? Or, do they want that the chauvinistic macho men be allowed to keep thrashing and flogging the weaker sex with complete impunity? Their answers to these questions would be ‘no’. Then, what do they have to fear about implementing this law?
