The civilised world not only strictly observes and respects the rights of the Mother Earth but also preaches it
ISLAMABAD: All holy books of great regions, all books of ethics and -isms honour the mother more than any other relationship on the earth. Similarly, they also teach respect and love for Mother Earth.
Currently, the way rights of glorious Mother Earth are being violated in our country, especially in urban Pakistan, the way the sacred lap of Mother Earth is being polluted, and the way garbage is heaped, the way its lungs — or what we call the trees — are being cut, the hearts of those who love their Mother Earth bleed.
The civilised world not only strictly observes and respects the rights of the Mother Earth but also preaches it. In this backdrop, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has invited all world leaders to a signing ceremony on April 22 for the historic climate agreement that was reached in Paris in December 2015. The signing event will take place at the UN Headquarters in New York and on the first day, the agreement will be open for signatures, which coincides with the observance of International Mother Earth Day, observed in many countries as simply Earth Day. The Secretary General intends to use the occasion of the signing ceremony to further engage world leaders as well as those from business and civil society to put the new agreement into action as quickly as possible.
