Supermarket owners and others are renting houses and using them as warehouses and factories
KARACHI: This refers to the article published in your esteemed newspaper on February 25 entitled, “After Baldia Fire”.
In a number of housing societies, supermarket owners and others are renting houses and using them as warehouses and factories, having no safety arrangements in this hazardous set up. Even a local library is making money this way.
This is a point of great discomfort for helpless residents. A small spark can burn the whole neighbourhood. Interestingly, in the Bahadurabad locality, such violations take place right in front of the Bahadur Yar Jung Society office, which is supposed to safeguard residents’ right to live.
The building control authorities, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, city administrators and others are committing criminal negligence by taking no action against this grave violation which can lead to much death and destruction.
Please act before any mishap takes place. Can the media plead our cause and can the courts grant us justice and protection?
