Criticism cannot yield productive results until and unless we also realise our own responsibilities towards Pakistan
RAWALPINDI: Each Pakistani national is proud to be a Pakistani and has immense love in his or her heart for our beloved country. We all want to see a developed and peaceful Pakistan and have the potential to work for it. However, we mostly waste our energies criticising one another. We love to criticise different institutions for different reasons. Criticism, if taken positively, is a good thing but it cannot yield productive results until and unless we also realise our own responsibilities towards Pakistan.
We need to understand that if, being Pakistani, we are given some rights, we have some responsibilities too and there should be no excuse not to pay heed to them. Our individual actions can develop a collective image of Pakistan in the world. It is time we realised what our responsibilities are. For instance, it is my responsibility to get an education, to vote responsibly, to care for the natural resources of our land, to follow rules and regulations, to care for and respect one another, to be aware of our surroundings, to treat foreigner tourists nicely, to treat people from different religious communities respectfully and to highlight the positive attributes of our country using social media, among others. Each and every citizen of our country, regardless of his or her age and academic qualification, can play an important role. However, the level of our responsible attitude is that we neither have enough patience to follow traffic rules nor the realisation of the significance of switching off lights, fans, air conditioners and heaters while going out of the room.
Although these are small acts, they can collectively make a huge impact.
