Citizens expect the new Islamabad mayor to fulfill his promise and provide basic necessities to the remote areas
RAWALPINDI: On February 15, polling for the first-ever mayor of the federal capital of Islamabad was held at Jinnah Convention Centre. Sheikh Ansar Aziz from the PML-N, a businessman on good terms with the Sharif family, was elected.
Citizens believe that it will be difficult for him to take bold steps against water shortages and the lack of schools and hospitals faced by the city. It will be a great challenge for him to deal with the capital’s bureaucracy. Even residents in posh areas of the city face gas, electricity and water shortage problems. They are forced to buy water from private tanker owners. Due to intermittent and prolonged power cuts, residents have to use generators or UPS batteries. Despite the dangers of using gas cylinders, citizens have to resort to their use in winter with no alternative options.
Considering all such problems, Mr Ansar Aziz is of the view that he is not unfamiliar with these issues. According to him, he has set a vision to resolve all the civic and developmental issues of the city and will meet the expectations of the residents. We, as citizens of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, expect that the newly elected mayor fulfills his promise to provide basic necessities to the remote areas of Islamabad. We hope he will work to improve the living standards of the people.
Residents of the federal capital would like to see Mr Ansar Aziz remain faithful to his responsibilities. During his tenure, the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation must strive to fix the issues facing residents of the capital territory.
