One only has to look at the performance of these self-proclaimed liberals in Pakistan during the last three years.
LAHORE: It is not just the Ahrar or the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) who were against Jinnah but also the Unionists from Punjab and a few economic migrants from Muslim-minority areas.
The fact is that the facade of so-called liberals in Pakistan, who have little tolerance for political dissent and consider it kosher to plunder the country’s resources, has no relevance to the Quaid’s concept of a democratic welfare state. One only has to look at the performance of these self-proclaimed liberals in Pakistan during the last three years.
Jinnah was a man of principles. He never lied to the people, which is why they trusted him. Today, the JI is not a relevant political force and neither is the Ahrar. Pakistan faces a cancer in the form of corruption, which has eroded our economy, state security and political culture. The result is that the state has all but abdicated its responsibility to run the country. So when people are killed in Karachi, who is one to turn to for justice?
