Pakistan’s problems have been created by dictators and the political parties and politicians that they created
RAWALPINDI: This refers to the statement made by Minister of Defence Khawaja Asif some time ago, where he termed the role played by Pakistan in the post-9/11 coalition a mistake. Pakistan’s disastrous problems took origin much earlier in the early 1950s, with the mysterious assassination of former prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan and later, the ousting from power of former prime minister Khawaja Nazimuddin. Governor generals Malik Ghulam Muhammad and Iskander Mirza and later Ayub Khan took over power and joined the American defence pacts against the communist bloc led by the Soviet Union.
Pakistan became embroiled in lethal wars, fundamentalism, extremism, sectarianism and other ailments, which are still very much ravaging the country. Pakistan’s problems have been created by dictators and the political parties and politicians that they created. It is high time to bring a turnaround for the better.
