LAHORE: Nearly a year and a half has passed since the hype regarding the issue of computerised arms licences in lieu of manual licences in Sindh. I live in Lahore and had to travel to Karachi to apply for a licence as it was issued by the DC Central Karachi. To this day, I have no news of its progress or any feedback individually or through newspapers. As responsible citizens, we have done our civic duty but the government has not. In the coming years, licences will be due for renewal. One is at a loss as to what is to be done. How long will the government continue to take citizens for a ride? Is there no accountability?
I have three licences, one from Sindh and the other two from Balochistan. I have been getting them renewed from the nearby post office in Lahore where I have been living for the past 13 years. On my visit to the post office this year for renewal, I was told to get it computerised from NADRA.
I visited the NADRA office and was told that the rule is applicable only for Punjab-based licences. The post office refuses to renew my Sindh licence and says that it does not even have the postal stamps for the task. I wonder if it can be registered with NADRA at one’s place of residence.
Why can’t the government provide simple conveniences to citizens? The Ministry of Interior must look into the matter and solve this issue.
