Stories best left for Urdu press

Letter January 17, 2011
I would request you to not run such stories because they dent Pakistan’s image overseas.

PRESTON, UK: I'm a Pakistani postgraduate journalism student in England and I'm writing to you with regard to your report of January 15 titled “Blasphemy allegations: Another Christian family on the run”. I would request you to not run such stories because they dent Pakistan’s image overseas. When I read such stories in the UK and my classmates do the same, I feel embarrassed, as if my country is something to be ridiculed.

Your newspaper is portraying Pakistan as a country inhabited mostly by poor people who are extremists and illiterate. Every society has problems and not all of them should be shown to the rest of the world. Our reputation is at stake. These stories are best left for the Urdu press.
