Construction of colleges

Letter February 15, 2016
Two degree colleges in Dhoke Syedan, Rawalpindi, have been under construction for no less than eight years

RAWALPINDI: Two degree colleges in Dhoke Syedan, Rawalpindi, have been under construction for eight years without there being any sign of the buildings being completed anytime soon due to lethargy on the part of the education department as well as the local leadership. The project was begun in 2007 by then chief minister Pervez Elahi as well as Muhammad Basharat Raja, but the PML-N government has done little to complete the construction of the colleges and commence classes for the past eight years.

Despite spending Rs42 million from the public exchequer, the Punjab government has failed to complete the projects. Youth accountability ambassadors working under the Sustainable Social Development Organisation visited the premises of the two colleges in Dhoke Syedan and saw only drug addicts dwelling there. The relevant authorities need to take up the issue of the colleges as a priority and initiate classes at the earliest.
