Liberals and extremists (III)

Letter January 15, 2011
All those who support drone attacks in Pakistan, who do not care about the views of the majority are liberal fascists.

PESHAWAR: Many people are claiming that liberals cannot be extremists or fascists. I disagree. The term ‘liberal fascism’ was introduced in Pakistan when General Pervez Musharraf started criticising religious extremists as well as pro-democracy liberals like Asma Jahangir and Aitzaz Ahsan. Urdu newspaper columnist Hamid Mir came out in support of Asma Jahangir and wrote that if a person like her was not acceptable to Musharraf despite her liberal views, then the latter was a liberal fascist. I think all those liberals who supported Musharraf, who support drone attacks in Pakistan and who do not care about the views of the majority are liberal fascists. They are no different from the Taliban.
