Illegal, high-rise buildings in Gulshan-e-Iqbal’s block one are touching high tensions wires and narrowing roads
KARACHI: There are many areas of Karachi suffering from water, electricity and gas shortages, as well as unauthorised and unchecked construction on encroached government land. Laws and by-laws are thrown to the wind as illegal construction of high-rise buildings, which often touch high tensions wires, continues and service roads are narrowed to build more concrete structures, especially in Gulshan-e-Iqbal’s block one area. There is just no end to illegal practices.
One shudders at the thought of a fire breaking out in such a scenario. There is hardly any space for the fire brigade to work and for the people to escape. The provincial and city authorities must stop this plunder and loot so that lives can be protected and infrastructure built in an organised manner.
