PIMS needs attention

Letter January 16, 2016
Doctors should focus on their patients instead of treating them only for monetary gain

CHAMANKOT: I recently visited the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), which was once the most sophisticated hospital in the country. Now, PIMS faces an array of serious issues. It is overburdened due to a heavy influx of patients from all over Pakistan. Doctors do not focus on patients properly due to the heavy volume of patients and their own personal lust for money. They prefer that patients visit their private clinics instead so they get a chance to mint extra money.

The federal government is requested to look into the dilemma facing PIMS. There should be a cleansing of corrupt elements from the hospital. The doctors should focus on their patients instead of treating them only for monetary gain. Yes, money is important but it should not be at the cost of quality patient care.
