Nearly 90 children are still under treatment in hospitals of Thar with limited medical facilities
TURBAT: The new year started mournfully for Pakistan as several children died in Thar due to malnutrition and waterborne diseases. Nearly 90 children are still under treatment in hospitals with limited medical facilities. Earlier, children belonging to the rural areas of Nagarparkar died because of the unavailability of ambulances. Furthermore, Thar’s main hospital has even been known to refuse admission to patients at times.
According to media reports, hospitals in Thar face a shortage of doctors, while around 215 dispensaries remain non-functional in remote villages of the area. Parents sometimes have no choice but to take their sick children to Hyderabad and Karachi — a costly trip. The Sindh government must take effective measures to tackle the situation. It has allowed the issue to linger on for much too long.
