Tensions in the Middle East

Letter January 07, 2016
Playing the role of a mediator is the safest way to act and can bring an end to the conflict

KECH: The relationship between Iran and Saudi Arabia has taken on the shape of a conflict, which is worrying for the Muslim world. The conflict arose when Saudi Arabia sentenced to death a religious scholar and the consequent burning of the Saudi Arabian embassy in Iran. The continuation of this stand-off could weaken countries in the Middle East economically.

The situation remains a tough challenge for Pakistan as both countries are its friends. In this controversial situation, the moral responsibility of Pakistan is to remain neutral and it should consider its own interests first. Playing the role of a mediator is the safest way to act and can bring an end to the conflict, which otherwise might escalate into a war unwanted by the entire region.
