Government should withdraw all kinds of taxes on the income of pensioners
KARACHI: This is regarding the withholding tax on pensions. The tax is, regrettably, not only imposed on cash withdrawals per day over Rs50,000 from pensioners’ bank accounts, but is also deducted on the profit of banks’ savings accounts every year, as well as on the making of drafts, pay orders and cheque books. The government should withdraw all kinds of taxes on the income of pensioners.
Similarly, taxes on utility bills if the house is under one’s own name or in one’s spouse’s name should also be withdrawn. The authorities concerned are requested to please give relief to pensioners who are now old and have limited economic opportunities, and are already spending huge amounts of money on medical treatments, procedures, medicines, children’s marriages and higher education.
