A morbid matter

Letter December 24, 2015
Graveyards in Islamabad are a shambles because of a lack of compassion on the part of the authorities concerned

ISLAMABAD: Graveyards in Islamabad are a shambles because of a lack of compassion on the part of the authorities concerned and infringements by the land mafia. Shops, workshops and houses on graveyard territory have been constructed. Residents of various zones of Islamabad claim that they face utmost difficulty in searching for a spot in a graveyard to bury loved ones and have to use influential persons’ references. The city administration made an announcement regarding holding a survey to understand the problems encountered by residents and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif even announced a budget for the renovation and redefining of graveyard boundaries, but the budget was consumed by the Metro project.

I urge the Capital Development Authority and the government to take quick action in this regard, especially paying attention to the H-8 graveyard.
