Hypocritical and nauseating

Letter January 10, 2011
I find the PPP’s actions quite contradictory.

KARACHI: This is with reference to your report of January 8 titled “Nine-point agenda: PML-N reminds PPP of impending deadline”. I have to say that I find the PPP’s actions quite contradictory. When Salmaan Taseer was alive, his party more or less disowned his remarks on the need to change the blasphemy law. Members of the federal cabinet, in particular Babar Awan and Khurshid Shah, went out of their way to pander to the extreme right by publicly disowning Mr Taseer’s comments. At least the latter was staying true to the ideology that the PPP claims to stand for, but where did that get him.

In this context, I find the party’s seemingly stirring defence of Mr Taseer quite hypocritical and nauseating. It is time that the media and the Pakistani public woke up and prevented those who did not stand up and support the governor when he was alive from cashing in on his death by trying to present it as some kind of conspiracy.
