Celebrating cultural days

Letter December 17, 2015
Sindh Cultural Day observed by members of different religious communities together was praiseworthy

LARKANA: Recently, the people of Sindh celebrated Sindh Cultural Day with enthusiasm and vigour. It was observed that the day was celebrated keeping in mind that there should be no discrimination on the basis of religion, sect, caste or creed.

The day was celebrated in parallel with the fearful situation prevailing throughout the country due to sectarianism, extremism and intolerance. It is praiseworthy that given this backdrop, the day was observed by members of different communities — Muslims, Hindus, Christians and others — with mutual respect, love and dignity.

Given the rampant extremism in the country, we need to promote such cultural day celebrations throughout the country. This can be an effective tool to encourage tolerance and amity among various communities.
