Poor domestic cricket structure

Letter December 10, 2015
The main reason we lag behind that we are not promoting deserving raw talent that performs at club-level cricket

RAWALPINDI: Cricket is one of the most popular sports in the country. Our achievements in the sport have made us proud for a long time. There is a desire among Pakistanis that their national team dominates the sport and becomes the best in the world. The poor structure of domestic cricket is the reason Pakistani cricket lags behind other cricket-playing nations. We do not have any shortage of talented players. The main reason we lag behind is that we are not promoting deserving raw talent that performs well at club-level cricket. These players are not provided with opportunities to advance to higher levels in the sport.

We can polish our existing raw talent by developing a domestic cricket system that only provides opportunities to players who perform consistently and without having entered the cricket arena using references. This will automatically lead to an improved structure and enable our national team to amp up its performance. This will also help us dominate the sport internationally.
