Unfinished Metro business

Letter December 10, 2015
I, along with other residents of the city, am ashamed to find a broken road running in front of the shopping area

ISLAMABAD: Over six months ago, the director of the Metro project in Rawalpindi proudly claimed to have completed the undertaking in a remarkably short period of time with an expenditure of some Rs58 billion. He proudly took credit for the wonderful work he had done.

Unfortunately, to this day, the work is not finished. If you visit the Blue Area of Islamabad, which is the city’s most posh shopping area, I, along with other residents of the city, am ashamed to find a broken road running in front of the shopping area. While traveling on this road, it seems as if one is roving through a dusty road of some far-flung city of southern Punjab — instead of the most posh shopping centre of the capital of the country. This road was destroyed while constructing the Metro roadway and it was expected that it would be built after the completion of the project. To this day, the road is in a shambles and is a blot on the face of the project director and the chief minister of Punjab, who is also the mastermind of the project. I do not know how many more months the citizens of Islamabad will have to wait before they can enjoy shopping in the Blue area as they did before.
