Justin Trudeau’s PR manager may need to do a better job in the future
Most analysts in the Canadian political world agree that Trudeau's honeymoon may not last long, and they are correct.
Whoever is managing Justin Trudeau’s PR campaign is doing a pretty good job, it seems.
Trudeau was personally present to greet the first plane carrying Syrian refugees. Videos of him picking out jackets for young Syrian girls have gone viral, and further improved Trudeau’s image as the man of the people, a far cry from Stephen Harper’s rigid regime.
While Trudeau’s command on critical policy issues such as minimum wage appears to be pretty weak, his command on items that gather media attention is the opposite. Most analysts within the Canadian political world agree that Trudeau’s honeymoon may not last long, and they are correct. There is simply too much to be done, and Trudeau will most likely succumb to the massive expectation levels he has given birth to, but as things stand currently, he is still riding high.
As noted by many since Trudeau swept into power a few months back, Canada appears to be heading towards sunny days, or at least that is what die-hard supporters of the Liberal Party believe. Trudeau’s recent move, similar to the ones before, ooze charisma. Out of all political party leaders in Canada, he is the youngest, arguably the most energetic, and has the appeal to gather significant street power.
Canadian children reciting a Naat to welcome the Syrian refugees makes this even better, even though there is absolutely no connection between Trudeau’s apparent big heartedness and this. What is important to note is that Syrian refugees in Canada have at least been given a respectable welcome; unlike what’s in store for them in the US should Donald Trump emerge victorious rather miraculously.
Having said that, it is also important to remember that the Liberal government pledged to welcome 25,000 Syrian refugees by the end of 2015, a promise that is already being backtracked on, citing logistical problems. It now hopes to settle 25,000 refugees by February 2016. Whether the government will be able to achieve the 25,000 number is still up for debate, but one thing is certain, that in the wake of all of this – whoever is managing Trudeau’s current PR campaign will need to do an even better job in the future, since it won’t take long for the criticism to explode at any sign of weakness.
