Rangpur Riders claimed a nail-biter of a six-run win over Sylhet Super Stars as they successfully defended a meagre 109 in their Bangladesh Premier League T20 match at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Right-armer Mohammad Shahid was the pick of the bowlers for the Super Stars as he claimed four wickets while giving away just 12 runs in his four overs.

Only three Rangpur players were able to reach double figures as they once again failed with the bat. Skipper Shakib alHasan was the top-scorer with 33 off 37 balls.

Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis had a horrible outing despite the performance of other bowlers around him, going for 41 runs in his four overs without picking up a wicket.

In reply, Sylhet seemed to be going strongly at 52-2 in the eighth over but lost their way from there on as wickets kept falling at regular intervals.

Shakib once more dragged his side from the brink, taking three wickets to be named the man of the match yet again.

Mominul Haque top-scored for his side with 29, while his Bangladesh international teammate and Sylhet skipper Mushfiqur Rahim was left stranded at the other end on an unbeaten 25 off 34 balls as Mendis was the last man out.
