Fear of unemployment

The youth of the country live in apprehension of being unemployable and useless because of a lack of job opportunities

RAWALPINDI: I am a software engineering student and want to bring to your notice the fear of unemployment for graduates in my field. The youth of the country live in apprehension of being ‘unemployable’ and ‘useless’ because of a lack of job opportunities. One report states that the business sector has left more than half of the youngsters feeling stressed while looking for employment, with one in seven dreading they will never be able to get a job. A review of 2,000 youngsters, between ages 16 and 25, by the organisation Action for Children, revealed that 53 per cent of them were anxious about their employment prospects.

As a result, youngsters are looking for shortcuts to success, for which they partner with the wrong people, which, in turn, leads to crimes, suicides and other negative repercussions. The government should move to implement the dispensation of skill-based learning in educational institutions and provide jobs based on merit. This will eventually decrease the crime rate.
