Dubai's Burj Khalifa now open for sunrise viewings on weekends

Tickets are now on sale to watch sunrise from the world's tallest building

Want to watch the sun rise from the tallest building in the world? Now you can. It will soon be possible to watch the sunrise over Dubai from the Burj Khalifa.

The Burj Khalifa announced on Thursday that tickets are now on sale for the United Arab Emirates’ weekend of Friday and Saturday for sunrise viewings.

Management at the Burj Khalifa say the sessions start from 5:30am and viewings are held every 30 minutes on the 124th floor until 8:00am. Previously, weekend viewings started from 8:30am.

Tickets for the viewings are priced at 125 dirhams ($34) for adults and 95 dirhams ($26) for children ages four to 12. However, children under the age of four gain free entry.

The pointed 2,717-foot tall Burj Khalifa opened to the public in January 2010.

Meanwhile, a Canadian company wants to build a tower 20 times higher than Dubai’s Burj Khalifa that would allow astronauts to take an elevator part way into orbit.

The idea of a “space elevator” was first proposed in 1895 by Russian scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky after he saw the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and was revisited nearly a century later in a novel by Arthur C Clarke.
