LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) candidate Chaudhry Tariq Kamboh seems to have the upper hand against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) Waheed Iqbal Meo for the UC 228 chairman.

The constituency includes Tariqabad, Awami Colony, Makhdoomabad, Meo Mohalla, Rasool Park, Zubair Colony, Madina Town and Jahangir Park. More than 24,000 voters are registered in the UC. Haji Muhammad Idrees and Mehar Rashid Anwar are candidates for vice chairman from the PML-N and the PTI, respectively. Kamboh was elected deputy nazim in 2005. He had then contested as an independent.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Kamboh said lack of safe drinking water, a good educational infrastructure, playgrounds and a sewage system were among the problems faced by the people in UC 228.

“I started several development projects in 2005. The sewage system in many areas was overhauled.”

Meo accused the PML-N of doing little to rid people of their problems. “They want change. They don’t trust the old faces any longer” he said.
