UET VC advises freshmen against slacking

Says semester system is a race which needs time management

PESHAWAR: At a rousing welcome for fall session students, University of Engineering Technology (UET), Peshawar vice chancellor warned them of falling behind in the demanding semester system. At least 500 students participated in the event on Monday. UET is the first public sector university to take on the semester system, which has been running successfully thus far.

It was mentioned in a handout that UET Peshawar Vice Chancellor Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani welcomed and urged new students to enrich their university experience, build networks, interact with people from different cultures and broaden their horizons. In doing so, they shall be equipped to take on intense competition and battle present and future challenges.

The VC recommended students follow semester schedules carefully. “From the very first day you have to be aware of deadlines, as there is no compromise on schedules and no provision of repeating midterm and final examinations.” Gilani added, “The semester system is a race and everyone has to keep his or her pace.”

Regarding discipline, he urged students not to take part in politics. According to Gilani, “It is easy to get influenced by the environment around us, but our model is different from others and we do not have room for any slack in our system.” He added, “If any student is found violating university conduct and discipline, the institution will immediately take disciplinary action which may lead to punitive decision. So please go through the prospectus and live by the book.”

UET Registrar Professor Dr Innayatullah Khan Babar and Director of Admissions Dr Laiq Hasan also welcomed new students and gave presentations about the university and its extra-curricular activities. UET Treasurer Nek Muhammad Khan, chairmen of remaining departments and other senior faculty members were also present on the occasion.
