KARACHI: Until the release of Jawani Phir Nahi Ani (JPNA), there was a flurry of Pakistani films slated to release in the foreseeable future. But the dust seems to have settled with the passage of about 30 days. Following the roaring success of JPNA, Pakistani cinema seems to have slowed down, hoping to catch a breath with no major local film releases expected until November. Although Mah-e-Meer looks to be the first local movie to hit cinemas following Muharram, its release is shrouded in a mystery of its own.

With a tentative release date of November 6 in the air, it’s yet to be confirmed whether the film will follow schedule or not. Talking to The Express Tribune, director Anjum Shahzad said the formal announcement regarding the film’s release will be made in the coming few days. “As of now, November is our month of release but nothing can be said for sure.”

Should the film release on the said date, it will find competition in shape of the latest James Bond-flick Spectre, news that has palpably left Shahzad hot under the collar. “As I said earlier, the release date is yet to be confirmed and it can be moved forward. We’re looking into it right now.”

He said the film is currently undergoing post-production and is nearing completion. “The post-production for the film is taking place abroad as there’s CGI involved as well.” Answering a question, Shahzad said it’s too soon to say whether the film will be distributed by Hum Films or not.
