PESHAWAR:

Traffic police in all districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will be provided with body cameras to record them at work, be it intercepting vehicles, collecting fines and registering FIRs. The video can be used as evidence at the courts whenever need be.

This was stated in a handout issued on Wednesday. According to the document, traffic wardens in Peshawar had already been equipped with these cameras and ordered to keep a record of their activities when dealing with people for future evidence.

“These cameras will force traffic police to act politely and responsibly when dealing with the public since they are often blamed for taking bribes and being harsh with [the public],” said the handout.

Since these body cameras are small and portable, they are expected to be highly useful for the police. It has been decided to equip regular police as well as traffic police with these devices across the province.
