Illegal fishing: 71 Indian fishermen sent to jail

Case against fishermen has been registered under Sections 3/4 of the Foreigners Act and 3/9 of the Fisheries Act

Over 70 Indian fishermen recently arrested for fishing illegally in Pakistani waters were sent to jail on Tuesday.


District West's judicial magistrate Ijaz Ali Abro remanded the 71 fishermen to judicial custody till October 19. Meanwhile, the investigation officer was directed to submit a charge-sheet against them at the next hearing.

The Maritime Security Agency had detained the fishermen aboard a dozen boats after finding them inside the Exclusive Economic Zone of Pakistan a couple of days earlier.

Later, they were handed over to the Docks police for legal action.

On Tuesday, the police presented them before the judicial magistrate, who remanded them to jail till Oct 19, when the investigation officer will present the charge-sheet against them.

A case against them was registered under Sections 3/4 of the Foreigners Act and 3/9 of the Fisheries Act.
