Guilty: Man sentenced to 14 years in jail

The accused was also booked for attacking a police party but the prosecution failed to prove this

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court sentenced on Wednesday an accused to a collective sentence of 19 years for possessing explosive material and an illicit weapon. Obaidur Rehman, said to be a political activist, was found guilty of carrying explosive substances and an unlicenced weapon in Sohrab Goth last year. The ATC-I judge, Bashir Ahmed Khoso, awarded him 14 years in prison for possessing the explosive material and seven years for possessing the illicit weapon. Rehman was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs20,000. In case of non-payment, the convict will have to undergo an additional six months in prison. Both sentences will run concurrently. The accused was also booked for attacking a police party but the prosecution failed to prove this.
