Police thwart target killing attempt in Peshawar

Unknown motorcyclists open fire at them during routine patrolling; no loss of life reported

PESHAWAR: Unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on Rapid Response Force (RRF) in Peshawar but the attack was effectively thwarted as the personnel returned fire.

The law enforcement agency’s van came under attack in the limits of Tatara police station in Hayatabad Sector E-8, Phase-VI on Tuesday.

Police official Fazal Diyain told The Express Tribune the van was on routine patrolling when unidentified motorcyclists opened fire at it.

“No losses were reported in the incident,” he said, adding the police started a search operation soon after the incident.

On September 12, a police van had come under a gun attack on Sufi Dheri road in Peshawar, leaving three policemen injured. Two suspected militants were also killed in the exchange of fire.
