At least 17 killed in incidents of violence during Eid

PESHAWAR/JAMRUD/KARAK/BANNU:

At least 17 people were killed in various parts of K-P while Rescue 1122 received 11,000 phone calls during the three-day-long Eidul Azha holiday.

“About 7,000 calls were from Peshawar,” a press release issued by Rescue 1122 on Sunday quoted Rescue 1122 Spokesperson Bilal Faizi as saying.

Rescue 1122 teams responded to more than 500 emergency cases, 120 traffic accidents, 10 fire incidents, and 15 cases of crime among others in the time period. The emergency service provided first aid to more than 200 people while over 300 people were rushed to hospitals, Faizi said.

In the provincial capital, a 15-year-old boy was strangled to death in Sadiqabad near Banamarhi police station. Police said Shahabullah was out and found dead hours later in the ruins of a house in the same locality. “He told his mother to prepare chapli kebabs for him and went out but never returned,” said a Banamarhi police officer.

Bannu, Karak

Around eight people were killed while five were injured in separate road accidents and firing incidents in various parts of Bannu. A body was also recovered from Kurram River. A police official said an autopsy revealed the deceased had died by drowning.

At least five people died and 14 were injured in Karak. In one of the incidents, a fire at the house of Noor Akbar, a resident of Lawaghar, resulted in the death of a woman and a child. Two others were injured.

Ceasefire in Jamrud

At least three were killed and two others injured as a result of a shoot-out between two groups in Mulagoori area of Jamrud, Khyber Agency. Political Tehsildar Asmatullah Wazir said a ceasefire has been declared between the rival families.
