KARACHI:

Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturer Association’s (PPMA) Central District Chairman Saeed Allahwala expressed his dismay over the Punjab drug ordinance, saying that it has not only left the consumers confused but also led to the harassment of several top members associated with the industry.

“This ordinance has no place in Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry since several regulatory frameworks are already functioning,” said Allahwala. “It is a bit unfair that the government is willing to prosecute the Rs250-billion industry, due to a handful of unlicenced companies.

“These fake companies pose a large threat to those operating with a legal licence as well, but the government, instead of realising this distinction, has started acting against all the drug producing companies in the industry.”
