Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has written a ‘secret’ letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, according to the Times of India.

During a meeting between a three-member Hurriyat delegation and Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit a letter was reportedly handed over from Geelani to be delivered to PM Nawaz.

"We handed over Geelani's letter for PM Nawaz to the officials at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi," spokesperson for the Hurriyat Conference, Ayaz Akbar, said in a statement on Wednesday.

He added, "The letter is confidential but highly important."

"Officials at the high commission assured us that the letter will be dispatched to the Pakistan prime minister on Wednesday," Akbar said.

Geelani's top aides, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah and Altaf Ahmad, met with Basit at his office in a meeting which lasted more than an hour.

The meeting comes following the cancellation of scheduled talks between the national security advisers of Pakistan and India on the account of preconditions put forth by India ahead of talks.

The premier's senior aide, Sartaj Aziz, was scheduled to meet with Hurriyat leaders in New Delhi following talks with India. However, with India going back on the mutually agreed talks the meeting did not go ahead.

Hurriyat leaders strongly condemned the cancellation of scheduled talks between the arch rivals, stating that India was not sincere in resolving the Kashmir dispute peacefully.
