Authorities concerned should work against factors that lead to diseases, punish eateries who create health issues

KARACHI: Consumption of unhygienic food has created a very bad situation in Pakistan vis-a-vis the health of the general public, who suffers from a lack of awareness regarding the importance of food hygiene. Contaminated and unhygienic food consumption leads to severe health problems, even death. Dining out in restaurants and the huge consumption of fast food have led to many serious issues regarding public health. There are no strict rules regarding food hygiene followed by eateries and even some high-end eateries are guilty of this. Recently, the Punjab government took a good step and launched an operation against such eateries, and fined and sealed those which were not working according to sanitation rules.

According to a report, globally, 2.2 million people (mostly children) die of foodborne and waterborne diarrhoeal disease annually. This is a serious issue to think about. The authorities concerned should work against factors that lead to these diseases and punish those eateries involved in creating health issues for the public.
