ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday announced that by-elections in NA-122 and NA-154 constituencies will be held on October 11.

Both the National Assembly constituencies, having significant political importance, recently fell vacant after post-election tribunals annulled the results of the 2013 general elections on these seats.

PTI chairman Imran Khan had lost against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Ayaz Sadiq in NA-122 and another PTI leader Jahangir Tareen had also lost against an independent candidate Siddique Khan Baloch who later joined the ruling PML-N party.

The PTI has already announced that Haleem Khan will be contesting from NA-122 Lahore constituency against the likely PML-N candidate, the former National Assembly speaker Ayaz Sadiq who has retained the seat during the last three general elections.

Jahangir Tareen will be facing some new candidate in NA-154 Lodhran since an election tribunal has imposed lifetime ban on Siddique Baloch declaring his educational certificate bogus.

Moreover, the ECP said that the nomination papers for the two constituencies would be accepted on September 10 and 11, scrutiny of the papers would be carried out on September 14 and 15. The last date for appeals would be September 19 while a final list of the candidates would be displayed on September 21, the poll supervisory body added.
