PTI's Arbab Asim elected as Peshawar district nazim in LG polls

Announcement comes following PML-N candidate Dil Nawaz's withdrawal against PTI's candidate

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is dominating in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa towards forming the local government, official results showed on Sunday.

Earlier today, PTI’s Arbab Asim was elected district nazim of Peshawar with 98 votes of the total 107, while Syed Qasim Ali Shah, also belonging to PTI, got 96 of the total 107 votes for the district naib nazim seat.

While the number of members in Peshawar district council house is 138, only 107 members attended the house during the election of nazims. The ANP, JUI-F and PPP boycotted the polls.

In the voting for other seats, Zahid Nadeem of PTI was elected as nazim of Town-I, Peshawar while Mohammad Shoaib of the same party emerged as naib nazim. In Town-II, Faridullah of PTI won the town nazim seat while PTI’s Nadeem was voted as naib nazim.

In Town-III, Peshawar, Muhammad Ali won the contest for the district nazim while Abdul Wahab for naib nazim seat, both being PTI candidates.

In Town-IV, nazim’s seat was won by PML-N candidate Haroon Sifat while the naib nazim came from JUI-F’s Arbab Kamal.

Election in Nowshera

In district Nowshera, Liaquat Khattak, brother of the province’s chief minister, Pervaiz Khattak, was elected as nazim, winning against the candidate of tripartite alliance Khushal Khan. The district naib nazim, Ashfaq, also belonged to PTI.

Similarly, PTI’s Raza Khan won the seat of tehsil nazim while the party’s Zar Alam Khan clinched the naib nazim seat.  In Pabbi tehsil, too, the scenario was not different as PTI’s Mian Murtaza won the seat of tehsil nazim while the party’s Sajid won the naib nazim seat.

Further, in tehsil Jahangira of Nowshera, PTI’s Sadiq Khattak and Hameedullah Khattak won the seats of nazim and naib nazim respectively.
