Another tribal elder killed in Bajaur IED blast

Malik Bahlol is the second tribal leader to be killed in Chamarkand area in the last two days

SHABQADAR: A tribal elder was killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Bajaur Agency on early Friday morning.

This is the second incident of a tribal leader being killed in the Chamarkand area of Nawagai subdivision in the last two days.

Confirming the IED blast, an official of the political administration official in Khar agency said, "Malik Bahlol, a pro-government tribal elder, was killed when an IED device planted on his way in Bar Chamarkand went off."

After the incident, the political administration cordoned the area and started a search operation. No one claimed responsibility for the attack till filling of this report.

Recently, the attacks on pro-government tribal elders in Bajaur have increased for their support to government. Earlier, on Thursday morning a tribal elder Rahim Gul was killed in the same area when a device planted near a roadside went off.

Last week, two tribal leaders and a minor were killed while two others were injured in an IED blast in Utmankhel tehsil, Bajaur Agency. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack. On August 23, two people, including a tehsil president of the Pakistan Peoples Party, were killed and three security officials were injured in separate acts of terror in Zari Mamond and Sapari Mamond tehsils of Bajaur Agency.
