Veena Malik and the moral brigade (II)

Letter December 25, 2010
The ghairat brigade is once again in action. How dare she?

RAWALPINDI: The ghairat brigade is once again in action and as always, the attention is on a woman who has ventured into an ‘enemy’ country and has questioned middle-class values. How dare she? Did she forget that she is from the ‘Islamic Republic’ where we persecute minorities in the name of religion?

We are so obstinate about the singular linear ideology, battered down our throats through distorted textbooks and middle-class discourse, that we fail to accept or even admit that there is a diverse group of people living in this ‘land of pure’, groups belonging to different faiths and believing in a variety of values.
